This Is the Fruit of Singles Ministry: A Beautiful Story from Uganda

For many years, I have had the privilege of partnering in ministry with Pastor Thomas Mike Obong, Senior Pastor of Christ Haber Ministries and Director of Single Adults Ministry in Uganda. Recently, Pastor Thomas sent me an update that reminded me once again why singles ministry matters and how the seeds we plant today can produce fruit many years later.
On August 8, 2026, more than 550 family members, friends, and community members gathered to celebrate the church wedding of Benard and Miriam. It was a wonderful day of celebration, but what makes their story so special is the journey that brought them to that moment.
It Started With a Young Keyboard Player
Benard first came to Christ Haber Ministries in 2013, while still a high school student. At the time, he wasn't coming because he was looking for a church home. He had been hired to play the keyboard, and the church would actually pick him up from school so he could come and play.
For approximately two years, Benard served as their hired keyboard player. But during that time, something began to change. He wasn't simply playing music; he was also experiencing Christian community, building relationships, hearing God's Word, and watching the lives of those around him.
Eventually, Benard told Pastor Thomas that he no longer wanted to simply be the hired keyboard player. He wanted Christ Haber Ministries to become his church. That decision began a journey of discipleship, spiritual growth, relationships, and mentoring that would continue for years.
Singles Ministry Is About More Than Being Single
Through Christ Haber Ministries and its Single Adults Ministry, Benard and Miriam were mentored as young single adults. Eventually, their relationship developed toward marriage, and they entered into a traditional marriage. Pastor Thomas and the ministry continued walking alongside them, ultimately having the joy of witnessing their Christian church wedding, surrounded by more than 550 people.
This is one of the reasons I have spent so many years encouraging churches around the world to invest in single adults. Singles ministry isn't simply about creating events where single people can meet. It is about discipleship, spiritual growth, community, leadership development, healthy relationships, and helping people discover God's purpose for their lives.
Sometimes we don't see the fruit of ministry immediately. It may take months or even years before we understand how God is using the relationships we build and the seeds we plant. Benard's story began with a church willing to pick up a high school student to play the keyboard. Years later, that same church was celebrating the Christian marriage of a man they had watched grow in his faith.
The Faithfulness of Two Single Mothers
There is another beautiful part of Benard and Miriam's story: both were raised by single mothers, and neither grew up with their biological father's active presence. Their mothers carried the enormous responsibility of raising their children while also teaching them about God and laying a foundation of Christian faith.
Imagine what it must have been like for those two mothers to sit at the wedding and look at their grown children. They could see some of the fruit of all those years of sacrifice, prayer, perseverance, and faithfulness. Their children were now adults choosing to live out the Christian faith their mothers had worked so hard to instill in them.
What an encouragement this is to single mothers and single fathers everywhere. Your circumstances do not determine what God can do through your children. The prayers you pray, the truth you teach, the example you live, and the faith you demonstrate can leave a spiritual legacy far beyond what you may be able to see today.
Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it."
A Special Moment at the Wedding
There was also a meaningful moment during the celebration when Benard's biological father attended the wedding. For a young man who had grown up without his father's presence, having him there was significant. Benard and Miriam honored him by giving him wedding cake.
While we may not know everything that has happened in their relationship over the years, it was still a beautiful picture of grace and honor. Sometimes God gives us opportunities to extend grace, open doors, and allow relationships to move in a new direction.
"This Is the Product of Single Adults Ministry"
At the end of his email to me, Pastor Thomas wrote something that really stood out: "This is the product of Single Adults Ministry."
I couldn't agree more.
Singles ministry is about so much more than someone's relationship status. It is about reaching people where they are and walking with them as they become who God has called them to be. It is about welcoming the high school student who initially comes because he has been hired to play the keyboard and then watching as he becomes part of the church family. It is about discipling young adults, mentoring relationships, supporting single parents, developing leaders, building community, and staying connected through the changing seasons of people's lives.
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3:6, "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow." That is such a beautiful picture of ministry. We plant seeds, we water them, we encourage, mentor, teach, pray, and remain faithful. Ultimately, however, God is the One who brings the growth.
Congratulations to Benard and Miriam, to their mothers who faithfully raised them, to Pastor Thomas, and to the entire Christ Haber Ministries family who invested in their lives along the way.
And to every singles ministry leader who sometimes wonders whether what you are doing really matters, keep going. The person sitting in your singles ministry today may someday become a spouse, parent, ministry leader, missionary, pastor, mentor, or someone who changes the lives of countless others.
You may be investing in one single adult today, but God can use that investment to impact a marriage, a family, a church, a community, and generations to come.

Our recent Father's Day Conference was more than an event—it was a reminder of God's heart for families. Centered around the African principle of Ubuntu—"I am because we are"—the conference emphasized a powerful biblical truth: we were never meant to do life alone.
As believers, we are connected. We grow together, encourage one another, and help each other fulfill God's purposes. When one person rises, the entire community is strengthened.
"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." -- Galatians 6:2
The conference challenged parents to embrace their God-given roles and responsibilities while calling the Church to become a place of mentoring, healing, discipleship, and compassionate service. Every believer has a role in helping others discover their God-given destiny.
A Growing Mission Among Single Mothers
One of the greatest needs we face today is among single mothers.
Beginning next week, we will launch a weekly Bible study for the single mothers in our church and surrounding community. Nearly 80% of the women in our congregation are single mothers, many carrying burdens they never imagined.
Some were abandoned during pregnancy. Others were left shortly after their children were born. Many are faithfully doing everything they can to provide for their families while facing overwhelming financial, emotional, and spiritual challenges.
These mothers often struggle not because they lack love for their children, but because they lack the support, resources, encouragement, and biblical guidance needed to parent alone.
Our desire is to walk alongside them—to teach God's Word, encourage their hearts, build healthy parenting skills, develop supportive friendships, and remind them that they are not forgotten by God.
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." -- Psalm 46:1
"The father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling." -- Psalm 68:5
Calling Men Back to Biblical Manhood
At the same time, we recognize another urgent need.
We are preparing to launch regular men's discipleship gatherings focused on biblical manhood. Our goal is not simply to teach information but to transform hearts.
Our communities are suffering because too many boys have grown into men without godly examples. Untamed men often create broken families, and broken families frequently produce another generation struggling with anger, insecurity, violence, and hopelessness.
God's answer is not condemnation—it is discipleship.
We want to raise men who love sacrificially, lead humbly, serve faithfully, and accept responsibility for their families and communities.
"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love." -- 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." -- Proverbs 27:17
The Church Must Lead the Way
Healthy communities begin with healthy families, and healthy families begin with people who know Christ.
The Church cannot simply observe the challenges facing single parents—we must become part of God's solution. Through mentoring, Bible study, practical support, discipleship, and authentic relationships, we can help rebuild lives one person at a time.
Ubuntu reminds us that "I am because we are." Scripture reminds us that we are one body in Christ (Romans 12:5). Together, we can restore hope, strengthen parents, equip future generations, and demonstrate the love of Jesus in tangible ways.
Please pray for these new ministries as they begin. Pray for the single mothers seeking hope, for the men learning to become godly leaders, and for the Church to be a place where broken lives are restored and every person is encouraged to fulfill God's purpose.

The Resources Finally Arrived!
What a blessing it is to see the resources we sent to Pastor Thomas Obong in Lira, Uganda, finally arrive! We shipped them through our leadership team in Wales, UK, in December, and after two months and a customs hold, they have now reached their destination.
We were so touched by the precious video they shared with us. Because of limited resources, they are unable to provide a book for each individual. Instead, they’ve created a library system in which participants can check out books while attending the Bible study. What a beautiful example of stewardship and commitment to growth!
Thank you, Pastor Thomas, for your continued love, dedication, and investment in the single adults in your community. Your faithfulness is making an eternal impact.

Passing Down and Sharing the Resources of Divorce Care Ministry
Pastor Thomas Obong had the privilege of handing over the DivorceCare ministry tool to his dear friend, Pastor Linus Ecec, in Bata, Dokolo District. With this resource, he will be equipped to minister to those walking through the deep pain of divorce, separation, and grief from the loss of loved ones. We are so grateful to see leaders empowered to bring hope and healing to their communities!
Bringing Hope to Single Mothers and Widows
This past Monday, we had the privilege of ministering to a group of single mothers from one of our local churches. Many of these women are widows, carrying the weight of life alone—some abandoned by relatives, with no family to turn to.
We shared a warm meal and, more importantly, the hope of Christ in the midst of their difficult circumstances. These women are often forgotten, but through your support, we are reminding them they are seen, loved, and not alone.

Father's Day Conference--Lives Are Changing!
What an incredible and inspiring day it was as we gathered to celebrate Father’s Day at Christ Divine Ministries in Lira, Uganda. The turnout exceeded all expectations—with over 450 adults and more than 50 children in attendance.
Every chair we hired was filled, and all five tents—each with a capacity of 100—were packed. The overflow crowd found space under nearby trees and the shade of homes in the courtyard, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere.
We were honored to have Rev. Dr. Michael Okwakol—former President of the Baptist Union of Uganda, former President of the All Africa Baptist Fellowship, and former Vice President of the Baptist World Alliance—lead the main sessions for men aged 40 and above. The theme, "Legacy of Fatherhood," resonated deeply with attendees.
Following the main session, participants broke into small groups by age and gender for one hour of discussion and reflection. These groups focused on Psalm 11:3: "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" Hearts were moved, and the Spirit of God was clearly at work—everyone listened with intention and humility.

Singles Ministry Training: DivorceCare, GriefShare and Leadership

Today, we focused on the importance of wisdom and encouragement in managing relationships with former spouses. We also discussed the significance of living out the fruit of the Spirit in our daily lives, especially during challenging times in relationships. I am so thankful for the great turnout and the valuable input from everyone. God is doing wonderful things with single adults and leaders in Lira, Uganda.
Single Parenting in Uganda, Done Well!

Recently, our church hosted a single-parenting seminar in Lara, Uganda, with me, Pastor Thomas Obong, and other local pastors I have been training for the past three years. What a fantastic turnout. We had more than 30 attendees from six churches. We taught about salvation, raising kids alone, life skills, money management, and more. We also allowed folks time to share their stories. Two single moms in particular both repented in tears, confessing anger and control issues regarding their children’s fathers (and having access to them). We encouraged these single parents, reminding them they are not alone. For the Lord was with them, and so were their church families. We then spent time in prayer not only for these mothers but for all attendees. What a glorious day we had. Youth Reloaded: Reaching Young and Single Adults

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12
It was a great joy in my heart to be one of the speakers at the "Youth Reloaded" conference this past September. The event was focused on young and single adults aged 13 and up from various churches in our city of Lira, Uganda. The event's theme was celebrating and worshiping Jesus, our Savior, sharing testimonials/experiences, and hearing from speakers.
This year, I spoke on "Overcoming the Blind Spots" based on the study "Intentional Relationships for Singles," co-authored by Kris Swiatocho and Dan Houk, who donated more than 100 copies of these studies to Ugandan Churches to use in ministering to single adults and their Churches.
I chose this topic because so many young and single adults have shared with me the struggle of dating someone towards marriage, only to have it end with their heart broken. There were many leading factors to these breakups, including "blind spots." These are areas we don't always see in our lives. I shared with these attendees the definition of a blind spot and also how they could identify some of the possible blind spots as shared by the authors (pp. 42-43), which include friendships, dating, conflict, emotions, gender, work, and social,
Attendees were then given time to discuss what they had learned from the presentation. Many agreed that they had not known they had blind spots. After I had finished teaching, one young lady came to me and said, "Pastor, everything you spoke about was about me. My foster mother spoiled me. I would get angry and lose my temper, but she would just love me and never disciplined me. Now, as an adult, my temper issues have continued. Every relationship I have had has failed due to my anger. I told her I thought she could benefit from counseling from a mentor if she would make changes. She was, so I recommended a great lady who mentored me in my relationship with my wife before we got married. Wow, even if one person's life changed, the time sharing the message was worth it.
How about you? Because we all have blind spots, we may not know they are there until we see a pattern of things in our lives. Ask God to reveal these areas; talk to your friends or family, who may also give you some insights. The Intentional Relationship Study is not just about blind spots but all kinds of relational issues with family, friends, romance, and God. It has been such an excellent resource for us here in Uganda.
Well, the conference was incredible. Over three hundred young adults attended it. I am so blessed to not only share but also listen. Listen so that I can be a better pastor, friend, husband, and father.
I want to take this time to thank my friends Kris of The Singles Network Ministries and Pastor Dan Houk for the gift of this book, "Intentional Relationships." This Bible study has spread light into our single ministries in Lira and other districts. This study clarifies the challenges single adults and the Church face in how to support single adults when it comes to relationships.

It was a great joy in my heart to be one of the speakers at the "Youth Reloaded" conference this past September. The event was focused on young and single adults aged 13 and up from various churches in our city of Lira, Uganda. The event's theme was celebrating and worshiping Jesus, our Savior, sharing testimonials/experiences, and hearing from speakers.
This year, I spoke on "Overcoming the Blind Spots" based on the study "Intentional Relationships for Singles," co-authored by Kris Swiatocho and Dan Houk, who donated more than 100 copies of these studies to Ugandan Churches to use in ministering to single adults and their Churches.
I chose this topic because so many young and single adults have shared with me the struggle of dating someone towards marriage, only to have it end with their heart broken. There were many leading factors to these breakups, including "blind spots." These are areas we don't always see in our lives. I shared with these attendees the definition of a blind spot and also how they could identify some of the possible blind spots as shared by the authors (pp. 42-43), which include friendships, dating, conflict, emotions, gender, work, and social,
Attendees were then given time to discuss what they had learned from the presentation. Many agreed that they had not known they had blind spots. After I had finished teaching, one young lady came to me and said, "Pastor, everything you spoke about was about me. My foster mother spoiled me. I would get angry and lose my temper, but she would just love me and never disciplined me. Now, as an adult, my temper issues have continued. Every relationship I have had has failed due to my anger. I told her I thought she could benefit from counseling from a mentor if she would make changes. She was, so I recommended a great lady who mentored me in my relationship with my wife before we got married. Wow, even if one person's life changed, the time sharing the message was worth it.
How about you? Because we all have blind spots, we may not know they are there until we see a pattern of things in our lives. Ask God to reveal these areas; talk to your friends or family, who may also give you some insights. The Intentional Relationship Study is not just about blind spots but all kinds of relational issues with family, friends, romance, and God. It has been such an excellent resource for us here in Uganda.
Well, the conference was incredible. Over three hundred young adults attended it. I am so blessed to not only share but also listen. Listen so that I can be a better pastor, friend, husband, and father.
I want to take this time to thank my friends Kris of The Singles Network Ministries and Pastor Dan Houk for the gift of this book, "Intentional Relationships." This Bible study has spread light into our single ministries in Lira and other districts. This study clarifies the challenges single adults and the Church face in how to support single adults when it comes to relationships.

Successful Father's Day Conference

We had a very successful Father's Day Conference. We had over 350 people; all 320 chairs were filled, and we had to borrow chairs from the neighbors. Some people even missed food because our food was budgeted for 250-320 people. It was the most spiritual day, full of quality teachings that were Christ-Centered, theological, and biblical. Matt Haviland, author of A Father's Walk: A Christian-Based Resource for Single Fathers and the co-author of The Daddy Gap, has been sponsoring Thomas and this event for several years now. Because of this annual event, the Uganda government is considering declaring a Father's Day on the Ugandan calendar. It hasn't happened yet, but it may one day because of Thomas's work and ministry.

Father's Conference
The recent gathering of Fathers in Lira City achieved its primary goal: to mobilize and empower fathers with fatherhood teaching to help them love, provide for, and protect their families. Fathers face several issues, ranging from being the breadwinners of their families to providing daily leadership, among others. However, it is essential to note that fatherhood in the African setting has been much influenced by many factors stemming mainly from globalization. Technological advancement has caused challenges in the way of life, which require a lot of adjustment from the parents' perspective. Yet, many fathers have not realized these changes, and many who have noticed the gaps in fatherhood are seeking solutions to these issues, but there is no place to seek information, coaching, and/or mentoring.
The annual fatherhood event that has been hosted for so far six years by Christ Haber Ministries is bridging the gaps between the fathers and the sons, the elders, and the young fathers, and this has been very instrumental in raising Christian leaders, especially Pastors and other lay leaders of the Church, to champion fatherhood teaching which is intentional in their Churches/organizations and families.
This year 0n 3rd July 2022, the sixth annual Father's Day conference was successfully held with over 200 fathers participating. The speakers spoke on the topics: 1. Fathers are priests of their families and the nation. 2. Fathers pay costs to be a blessing to their families and the nation. The teachings centered on the lives of Abraham, Joseph, and Moses, leading the children of Israel from Egypt to the promised land.
The recent conference made it clear that fathers seek a program to empower them to be responsible fathers. There is an urgent need for father-mentors in Uganda and beyond to produce a young generation of fathers who are working for God, their families, and the nation. Many fathers have now given up on life, which is responsible for increasing the number of homeless children on the streets and the high prevalence of teenage pregnancies in the nation. There are a lot of irresponsible young men who pick up young girls just to waste their future. The danger is that population growth is high. The growing population poses a significant danger to natural resources like land, wetlands, trees, and production; people are taking a lot from these resources, but they are unable to produce enough to sustain or improve them.
Besides constraints put on natural resources, children are left growing up in a hostile or free-range environment where societies or communities do not know what is toxic or suitable for their children. Because we grow up in this kind of life, we duplicate that nature of life to the next generation, and the cycle continues until we have a generation that does not know God or know what is good for them. The god of this world is at work (2 Cor. 4:4), and his primary intention is to destroy men, and he is doing that by creating hopeless situations among men; so many fathers are living in desperate situations simply because they grew up without hope, as their fathers planted the seed of hopelessness in them. Such a conference like the one we conduct in Lira enhances fatherhood possibilities among men; we challenge men to know that they are born to manage affairs of life and that men are meant to provide leadership to their families and the nation. Single mothers are challenged in this gathering to step into providing leadership to their families; they do not need to look for men in all aspects of life as there are so many things that God wants them to accomplish as mothers.
Weekly and monthly activities
We conduct weekly mentorship programs in three places in Lira. These meetings aim to raise the banner of Christ in the hearts of men in these communities, so they can champion fatherhood teaching in their respective families and communities by being role models. Our weekly and monthly needs depend entirely on single-handed support from Matt, but for the last two years, the small support has been prioritized on food relief.

Couple Reunite Post Divorce Care Course
What a great story of redemption and God's love. A church in Lira, Uganda, offers Divorce Care, and a couple took the course and, as a result, reconciled after 18years apart and remarried. God is so good. From Pastor Thomas Obong...I gave the sermon and also led them to repeat their marital vows. It was colorful. I saw tears of joy in both the couple and their children.

Being Intentional in Uganda
Recently, Pastor Dan Houk and Kris Swiatocho of Intentional Relationship Solutions had the honor of donating (with the fantastic support of singles from all over the USA) 100 Intentional Relationship Bible studies to Pastor Thomas Obong, Christ Divine Fellowship Ministries, in Lira, Uganda.
Kris Swiatocho (The Singles Network Ministries), Church Initiative (parent organization of Divorce Care and Single and Parenting), and Matt Haviland, author of A Father’s Walk, have worked with Pastor Thomas for many years, focusing primarily on ministering to single adults. In fact, with Matt's help, they have set up the first “Father’s Day” in Uganda.
Uganda, like America, has some of the same issues, including a high percentage of single adults, including never-marrieds, divorced, widowed, and single parents, many without a father in their lives. Uganda also has many other problems, including health care limitations, HIV, and poverty. But praise God; through the work of the Lord through Pastor Thomas and his church, single adults' lives are getting better. Pastor Thomas has witnessed many heal from divorce, health and emotional illnesses, and financial issues. Lives are changing, one by one.
So how is the Intentional Relationship Bible Study helping to make this difference?
When Pastor Thomas first heard of the study, he contacted us and shared the desire to teach it. He thought it would help those struggling with all kinds of relationships, including former spouses, their families, neighbors, and even potential mates. And we agreed. However, the cost to ship just one book, not counting the book's price, was $10. So the only thing we could do was pray and ask for God’s help. As a result, we were able to raise $1000 to ship 100 books. Although 100 books are not very many, considering the number of singles in Uganda, we hope we can send more later. In the meantime, Pastor Thomas shared with me a solution to help multiply the 100 books we did send—like the fishes and the loaves—well, at least the content of each book. While singles attend the actual study in person, they can use the book, but they are not allowed to take it home. Pastor Thomas says this allows more people to read the book and more study groups to start.
Wow, this is amazing. Now, I can only imagine with this system; each participant has a bit more homework, including taking down extra notes. However, it’s working, and that is all that matters. But it hasn’t stopped there. Pastor Thomas partnered with other local churches, distributing the books so each church could also start groups. I believe we will send enough books so that all of the singles in Uganda can have their own copy one day. I know with God, all things are possible.
Matthew 19:26: Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Testimonial from Rev. Dr. Milton Ogwal by Pastor Thomas Obong
I love to share this testimony with my Church family. Today, one of the elders who has been my mentor, Rev. Dr. Milton Ogwal, recently shared a challenging message with the Church leaders. He has been battling with diabetes for some years, but it had gotten worse in 2019 when he traveled to Norway and Canada on mission trips. He would find himself in a hospital and near death when God would reveal something to him.
He cried loudly before leaders, calling on pastors, including myself, to be more compassionate toward their flock. He noted the negligence of Church leaders in general in addressing hurting people, specifically those divorced, single parents, and those with chronic illnesses, etc. He said that he got a revelation one night when he was left alone in a hospital room. Doctors came and told him that he only had a few hours to live. For the next 10 hours, he experienced pain beyond belief. He asked God to either kill him or heal him. It was at that point that God's glory covered him, and he heard God tell him that "the pain you are experiencing, the torment, is the way my people are also feeling. They are in horrible pain without anyone to help them."
God would not take him that night. He then called for all Churches to start support groups to help the different needs of people that were often being ignored. I was able to share with them about my church and the various ministries to single adults, including DivorceCare. He told me he would let churches know about this great resource and how it could help their people.
Two days ago, one of the DivorceCare leaders called to let me know that their ministry has attracted a lot of single mothers who have been abused. There are about 40 single mothers who are in pain, feeling rejected, and in great need of the essentials.
I will be meeting him tomorrow evening to discuss the way forward. God is at work. He is a great God. Please join me in praying for the Church in Lira. We need pastors who love people more than programs.

Divorce Care, Food Relief, Children's Ministry and More
Thank you to so many who support through prayer, donations, and education/resources for the ministry here in Lira, Uganda. We continue to minister to single adults through our DivorceCare ministry, teachings, food relief, plus a new ministry to children. 1. Due to COVID, we are having food and medical shortages that are especially affecting those who are vulnerable, such as children and the elderly.
2. We still need to buy more equipment for ministry.

The Lord continues to bless our Father's Day event in Lira, Uganda — serving 500 people this year (up from 400 last year)! Although Father's Day is not officially recognized as a national holiday in Uganda, we hope to help change that one day. And congratulations to event coordinator and director, Pastor Thomas Mike Obong, on his ordination at the event! ______________________________ Hello everyone, For a few of you, this may be a repeat — but please bear with me. For the past 4 years I have partnered with Christ Devine Fellowship Ministries (CDFM) in Lira, Uganda on a Father's Day event. Basically, I have financially supported the majority of the event myself and also provided written resources such as articles, blogs, Fatherhood information, etc. Our event in 2015 hosted about 35 people...in 2018 we had over 400 attend! Most importantly, in one of the recent years, 9 people gave their lives to Christ! I have attached some pics from 2017-2019. Uganda is a highly Christianized nation, but as is the case in the US, many people are Christian by name only and not living the faith out. Poverty, sinful lifestyles, and disease have led to an extremely high percentage of single mothers and orphans. I see God using the Father's Day event as the catalyst for something bigger in Uganda: restoring the men and fathers over there to the way God calls all men and fathers: as the servant leaders, protectors, and providers of our homes. There is even talk of making Father's Day a national holiday in Uganda, just as it is in America. A couple of weeks ago, my friend and co-partner in this, Thomas Obong (Pastor of CDFM), held a Leader's breakfast to cast our vision to more cities around Uganda--55 leaders showed up for this! I hope to personally visit Uganda one day to work with the people over there on the ground level. Until then, I am requesting your assistance in helping us make this year's event a success. Our budget for the Father's Day event is $1,500. Yes, it is EXTREMELY cost effective (400-500 people for only $1,500). Would you please consider making a donation to help fund the event? What is God doing in a combined ministry of DivorceCare, Single adults, and Single parents?
My friend and Mama in the Lord, Nancy Kilpatrick, was with our women today in the Church. We had over 45 women who will be meeting every Friday with Nancy. These women have lost hope due to so many circumstances. Our alumni are actively participating; the women also meet every Sunday from 2:00 pm- 4:30 pm. The majority are living with HIV on top of the trauma of divorce and separation. On Mondays we offer DivorceCare class, and on Fridays we have single adult ministry. We also have other groups meeting in many other churches. Please join us in prayer for these groups to grow, for more leaders and more resources to help them to continue to reach the single population in Uganda. We have known for years that Uganda has a huge population of orphans, single mothers and fathers, and young single adults (without children). Recently, with the help of Pastor Thomas Mike, a leader in Uganda, we started gathering pastors and leaders to develop a network so we can offer training, support, and encouragement. Pastor Thomas is presently the DivorceCare.org representative, conducting training programs all over Uganda. We have also partnered with different US ministries such as "A Father's Walk" with Matt Haviland, who are willing to email resources and offer support. So join us in prayer for this vital ministry!

Pastor Thomas Mike recently attended a conference in Kenya that introduced DivorceCare and Singles Ministry. Meanwhile, in Uganda, Pastor Thomas held an awareness meeting with over 25 pastors from Oyam and Kole districts, selected from 30 independent ministries, on the need for pastors to have a ministry to single adults in their churches. One big ministry is interested in singles ministry because their church is sponsoring children from disadvantaged homes. The majority of their guardians/parents are single parents.
