The Heart Behind My Ministry: The Singles Network 

For more than thirty years, I have had the privilege of serving single adults, training ministry leaders, and partnering with churches throughout the United States and around the world. During that time, I have learned one simple truth: healthy ministry isn't built around programs—it is built around people.

Every single adult has a story. Some have never been married. Others are divorced, widowed, single parents, or raising grandchildren. Some are young adults just beginning their careers, while others are navigating midlife, caring for aging parents, or entering retirement. While their circumstances may differ, they all share one thing in common—they need a place where they can grow in their relationship with Christ, build authentic friendships, discover their purpose, and become fully engaged in the life of the local church.

One of the greatest misconceptions about singles ministry is that it exists primarily to help people get married. While I love celebrating healthy, Christ-centered marriages and rejoice whenever God brings two people together, that has never been the purpose of singles ministry. Our calling is much greater. We exist to make disciples, not matchmakers. We help single adults grow spiritually, serve faithfully, develop healthy relationships, discover their spiritual gifts, and live fully for Christ regardless of their relationship status.

I believe the local church is God's primary instrument for making disciples, and whenever possible, I encourage churches to intentionally reach and disciple the single adults within their congregations and communities. Healthy singles ministry should never function independently from the church but should strengthen it by helping single adults become fully engaged in worship, discipleship, service, missions, leadership, and every aspect of church life.

At the same time, I recognize that many communities have little or no ministry specifically reaching single adults or young adults. Some churches are not yet ready to begin a ministry, while others simply lack the resources or leadership to do so. That is one reason I am equally passionate about helping establish and strengthen Christ-centered para-ministries that work alongside the local church rather than competing with it. These ministries often provide opportunities to reach people who may not yet be connected to a church, create partnerships between multiple churches, and fill important gaps where no ministry currently exists.

Whether church-based or community-based, my desire is always the same—to see people come to know Jesus Christ, become part of a healthy local church, grow as disciples, and discover God's purpose for their lives. I have had the privilege of helping leaders start ministries in churches, launch independent Christian organizations, strengthen existing ministries, and equip leaders around the world to reach the unique needs of single adults and young adults. Every ministry model may look different, but the mission never changes: making disciples who make disciples.

Over the years, I have also become convinced that one of the greatest needs in the church today is intentional leadership development. Ministries do not grow simply because they have a gifted leader. They grow because leaders invest in other leaders. Jesus modeled this throughout His ministry. While He preached to the crowds, He invested deeply in a small group of disciples who would continue His work after He returned to the Father. That example continues to shape the way I train leaders today. I want every leader to identify, encourage, equip, and release others into ministry so that the work continues long after they step aside.

Another passion of mine is helping churches recognize that single adults are not one homogeneous group. A 22-year-old college graduate has different opportunities and challenges than a 38-year-old professional, a 50-year-old who has never married, or a 65-year-old widow. While these individuals can certainly worship and serve together, they also benefit from ministries and small groups that recognize the unique seasons of life they are experiencing. As young adult ministries often end in the late twenties, many single adults find themselves without a place to connect during some of the most significant years of their lives. I believe churches and para-ministries alike should be intentional about creating opportunities that serve people through every stage of adulthood, helping them continue growing in faith and community rather than leaving them to navigate those years alone.

I believe healthy ministry is built on biblical truth, genuine relationships, prayer, servant leadership, and a commitment to excellence. It values hospitality, encourages accountability, equips volunteers, develops future leaders, and creates opportunities for people to grow in both faith and friendship. Healthy ministry also reaches beyond the walls of the church, serving the community, sharing the Gospel, and inviting others to experience the hope found only in Jesus Christ.

Throughout this website, I share ideas, articles, leadership principles, and practical resources that have been shaped through decades of ministry experience. Some lessons came through joyful victories, while others were learned through difficult challenges. My hope is not that every church or ministry will build its work exactly the same way. Every congregation, organization, and community is unique, and every ministry has different opportunities and challenges. Instead, I hope these resources will encourage you to seek God's direction as you build a ministry that reflects the vision He has given you.

If there is one thing I hope you take away from my ministry, it is this: never underestimate what God can do through leaders who intentionally love, disciple, and invest in single adults and young adults. Whether you serve through a local church, a para-ministry, or another Christ-centered organization, your willingness to say "yes" to God's call can change lives for eternity. When people are equipped to follow Christ wholeheartedly and use their gifts to serve others, the entire Body of Christ becomes stronger, healthier, and more effective in advancing God's Kingdom.
