Squirrel 04/19/2011
Dear Prayer Partners, Last week I watch the movie "Up" by Pixar Studios. An amazing animated movie about an elderly widower named Carl Fredricksen and an ernest young Wilderness explorer named Russel who fly to South America by floating in his house. The movie is bittersweet in that Carl is flying to South America because he had promised his wife they would one day go there. They continue to save up money only to have to use it each time for various things such as visits to the ER, car and house repair..you know, all the things of life. Then unexpectedly, Carl's wife dies and they never got to go to South America. At the same time, the city wants his house/land and is forcing him to move to a retirement home. In his anger and a desire to still make it to South America, he inflates a zillion balloons and floats there (not knowing a little kid was on his front porch as he lifted off). Once he arrives in South America the come upon a dog who has been fitted with a device that allows him to speak. He is trustworthy companion for Carl and little Russel until the unexpected squirrel that pops up now and then and distracts him. This past weekend, the pastor at the conference, (not knowing I had just seen the movie) would from time to time would forget what he was saying and would yell out "squirrel." I would just start laughing as I could relate to how easily we can get distracted. The enemy is always at my doorstep trying to distract me with worries God has in control. To get me off tract of the path I am on. To instill fear and frustration. Today, while catching up on some emails, I looked out my front window and saw a squirrel laying down flat on my railing. Understand, I have always had squirrels on my porch as I have been known to feed them but I have NEVER seen one do this. They are always playing, running, eating, etc...always moving, never slowing down. Sort of like all of us. Then, when I saw this squirrel do this, I was in shock. A squirrel was not just resting but was flat on his stomach, chilling (not eating or doing anything). Thank you Lord for showing me even in your most spastic creations the art of slowing down and only focusing on You. If you can slow down a squirrel, you can slow down me. Psalm 62:5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. 1 Comment |
