Kenn shared with us on that night how he has ADD. He said as a result of this, his prayer life is constantly challenge. He shared how when he prays he would go something like this...God bless my wife, my kids, hey, I love cheese. Well, we all just cracked up. He went on to share that for some folks, their prayer life is really hard. There are many who have wonderful prayer lives. They get up at 5am, spend an hour with God, cry some, yell some, laugh some only to end up on their knees thanking God for all He as done for them. But for Kenn, this just doesn't happen. So does this mean, he shouldn't pray? No, it just means he has to do it a different way. Kenn came up with a solution called W.E. A simple way to bascially take the two major areas of our prayers and speak those to the Lord. W: What are you worried about and E: What are you excited about. If you think about it, it makes sense as these are two areas that need prayer.
Hmmm, so let's test this. OK, what am I worried about Lord. I am worried about the economy, my dad who is sick with Alzheimer's, lost people in my life, not trusting you enough, etc...OK, what am I excited about, my niece who is seeking the Lord, my ministry that God has given me, new writing and book ideas, wonderful friends...Wow, it works and it gives me a simple way to remember how to talk to God, to pray.
Now, unlike Kenn, I don't have ADD...more like DBD (Distracted, Busy, Disorder). Usually I fall back on the old Sunday school acronym of ACTS: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication to help format my prayers. But just the same, WE helps us to talk to God and you know what...whatever works to get you to a closer, more intimate relationship is good to me.
