I was like, uhhh, WOW!? I had never really thought about it like that. Yes, I want the devil to stop tempting me. I want him to stop controlling me in so many ways. I want to be free of his mess but in asking this, I have to want the opposite. It's like this, you can't say, I wish the devil would stop tempting me with beautiful things to buy, or amazing food at a chinese buffet, or watching something bad on TV. Wishing and hoping it would stop will not make it stop. You have to want the opposite of these things. You have to be serious about getting out of debt or losing weight or watching wholesome shows. You have to say yes to Jesus and His way. You can't have it both. Are nice things or food or TV bad in itself. No. However, it is if it controls you or leads to other bad things or has negative consequences such as debt, stuff, bad health, bad thoughts, etc...you may have a problem.
Hmmm, I had to think about all of this. Yes, I don't want to fall into sin at all. I want to stop doing things in my life that hurt me, whatever they may be. But I guess I was going about it in the wrong way. I mean, its similar to the story of David and Goliath. With David's strength there is no way he would have defeated Goliath but with God's strength through Him, he could. So maybe this is what all of life is really about. Trusting God to know better, know more, know how. Believing in His power to protect, guide and sustain. Believing in His power to not only make the devil stop but to flee. Oh, and it also helps to not shop at the stores that cause some of the sin to happen, also to stay away from certain restaurants and maybe get rid of the TV. I mean, do what you have to do to help your walk.
God is waiting and ready to fight our battles, whatever they may be. Are you ready to let Him? Say Yes to Jesus first and His way and then no to the devil and he will flee.
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
