Today's devotion was from Exodus 17:15...And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-Nisei (God is my banner). God will go out before me while preparing me for battle, to fight my enemy all the while, helping to rally and encourage the other soldiers.
Can you even grasp this concept? I think as Christians, we often thing we have to fight our battles that WE THINK we can fight. And that only when we can't, we then ask God for help. But based on this scripture, we NEVER have to fight any battle alone.
That God is:
• Always ahead of us: He is marking out our path, he is preparing the soil, he is removing obstacles, and so forth.
• Raising our banner: He constantly reminds us that we are his. He loves us and will protect us. He will provide. We go into battle marked by his love, marked by his ownership, and marked by his strength.
• Rallying the troops: Because he encourages us, we can encourage others to keep fighting the fight. To not give up. To focus on the banner as it leads the way.
• Preparing us: In Ephesians it talks about the full armor of God. To get us ready for battle. For so many years I would pray to put it on when one day someone ask me why I took it off. I was like, "wow"..no wonder I am under so much attack. As you draw closer to God, he will teach you the importance of his word in your heart, the importance of wearing your armor, and the importance of discernment of the enemies distractions. The enemies goal is to always kill, steal and destroy, John 10:10 but Jesus came to give life.
This world is full of pain, hurt, brokenness and struggle. But with the Lord head of us, in us and fighting for us, we can win. For our reward is not on this earth but eternal.
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Phil 3:14
