On one of my trips out west, an elderly lady sat beside me. She was on her way to see Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. She was so excited. I had been there before so I told her what I knew. She and her sister have been traveling all over the US since she had retired. Her sister would meet her half-way and then they would travel together. She was a nice lady but she was hard of hearing. She yelled our entire conversation for 2 hours. By the time we landed, everyone around us knew us both well. This was great considering I witnessed to her. She used to go to church but stopped going for whatever reason.
On another trip I actually got to witness to a young man who had stopped going to church when he was a child. He had gotten into all sorts of problems and was still struggling. I prayed with him across the isle.
Most recently I was traveling and while waiting for my next flight, a lady approached me about my shirt. I was wearing my breast cancer awareness t-shirt with the words, "fight like a girl" written on the front. She recognized it as a t-shirt she had from her church. We instantly started up a conversation and sat down to have coffee. She was in full-time ministry. She and her her husband travel all over the world encouraging pastors. Now Debbie would end up doing most of the talking. She seemed like she needed some pouring into or at least someone to listen. I understand as its tough in ministry sometimes. At the end, without really knowing me, she asked if she could pray for me. I was like, of course (as this never happens..I am always the one praying for people). She prayed for God's to open doors and for more opportunities to do the work the Lord has given me to do. Wow! How did she know? The Lord's Holy Spirit knew.
You see, we can go through this life just getting by. We can travel by car, plane or train and miss out on so much God has for us. Some of the people you see may have never heard the gospel. Some of the people may be lost. Some may need encouragement, friendship, someone to listen, someone to help. And some of these people may be there to help you. Next time you travel by any means, pray and ask God to be prepared for who He puts in your path. You never know how your obedience could change both your lives.
