One single though in particular said he was not at church because he had been nursing a friend. On Saturday night there had been an event at his home. Everyone was having a good time; however, there was a one person who was causing some problems. She has a very strong personality to say the least. At one point in time some of the singles decided to leave the gathering due to her. So what is wrong with her? Well, I am not sure. It could be self created, trying to get the attention of others. It could be a mental condition of some kind. Either way, it distracts when we have gatherings. She has been spoken to on several occasions and seems to get better only to lapse back into poor behavior. Well, the evening ended early and my single was distraught, feeling as if he had done something wrong. When I assured him that he had not, he seemed to feel better. I went on to say the real reason why people left. He was like really? Yea, she is extreme and can get on your nerves but, but...I said, yea? IF we don't accept her, then who will? He went on to say that he spend most of his early twenties being the misfit, the outcast, partly due to sin and partly due not knowing how to fit. He said, thank God for those who stayed the course and were there for him. Those that listened when nobody else did. Those that were able to find common ground.
Then it hit me. Thank you God for allowing this young man to help me see who you are Lord. How you didn't fit. How you were an outcast. How you were persecuted. Now I know the Lord had no sin nor was he trying to manipulate people, this where our flesh fits in and yes, this young lady needs some nurturing and correction. But to hear what my single said of why he wants to help her. Becasue he knows what it feels like.
So why was he absent from Sunday morning? He stayed up talking to her on the phone to the middle of the night, being her friend. Helping and caring for her. Mary Poppins would be proud. Then he said he stayed up the rest of the night, worrying about her, wondering what he could do to help her in the future. Wondering what Jesus would do.
So no, I am not happy he missed church but I am thrilled that He really is being Jesus? Are you?
