As the evening progressed, I did my normal teaching, a praise and prayer time, food and discussion questions. Things went well and people seem to really engage. I had hoped we would have time to pray in small groups but for whatever reason, it didn't happen. So as I saw folks grab their purses, jackets and leftover's to leave, I said "hey folks, I want to tell you about our new friend Nora."
As I shared what little I knew about Nora, I asked her to come forward to sit and that we wanted to pray for her. She not only lost her dear mother but there was also no money or insurance to pay her bills. As each of us gathered and laid hands on Nora, God revealed something to me that we all need to remember...
1. God is our provider. He works through us to do provide.
2. God is our protector. He works through us to protect.
3. God is our comforter. He works through us to comfort.
4. God is our encourager. He works through us to encourage.
While I prayed and listened to my many friends also pray, it showed me how tonight was not about groups praying but about praying for one of his lonely, sad sheep. God is IN the details.
"What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? Matthew 18:12
If you were the only one, the only one on this earth, Christ would still die for you. God knows your heart, your pain, and your suffering and is here, through his Spirit to give you that comfort and peace you so desire. He is also here through his people.
Nora took the step to join us Saturday night. She knew the enemy wanted her by herself. She knew she needed community. Thank you Nora for showing us love by being apart of our group and by allowing us to love you.
