Well, my neighbor also saw my yard and its major need for some weed eating. He said he would come over and trim to help me out. He also said he would put some weed killer and re-mow my lawn, which had a large amount of clippings due from when I had mowed it (I had been gone for 2 weeks and well, it grew a lot while I was gone.) I was so blessed and thankful.
Later that day I was going somewhere when I saw him working in his yard. I yelled out from my car window to thank him. I told him that he was such a good neighbor. He, like always, said, Kris, no problem. I am glad I could help you. I started to drive off when all of a sudden, he said you know Kris, you could do something for me and I was like "what"? You could pray for me. I told him I had been praying for him for 14 years. He said, you know Kris, I don't pray. So would you pray for me? Of course, I told him.
What an answer to prayer. I have no idea what this means right now. I am not going to push ahead of God. But my prayer time for him has multiplied considerably. I pray I never forget to pray for him. Understand, sometimes God wants us to witness to someone right then to the point of asking if they know where they are going to spend eternity. These times are where the odds of seeing that person again are slim. You know, traveling, customer service on the phone, etc. Where as those you may see again like a grocery store clerk, people at your doctors office, gas station attendant, dry cleaner, neighbor, etc. you need to make an effort to build a relationship so there is trust. So hopefully as time goes on, you will get to share more and more of whom Christ is to you.
But not matter how you witness, it’s important that you start each day by asking God to give you a God-incident. You know, a time where you experience God. It may be a sunset, a reminder of all the things God has given you, hearing a child laugh, holding a brand new puppy or an opportunity to share your faith with someone who is lost or someone who might be saved but discouraged. This way you are ready every day for who God brings you way. And know you will never have to find them. God brings them to you. Just like with my neighbor, he came into my yard. I didn't go into his.
Now this doesn't mean that you need to some times ask the eternity question to even someone you know well or someone you know you will see again. That is where the Holy Spirit comes in to direct you. But that is just it. You have to be led by the Spirit to know the difference. John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Please know I know it’s hard to share you faith sometimes. But remember, your actions speak louder than your words. How are you living your life? Are you living out your faith? Do you trust the Lord in all things? How do you spend your money, your time, and your energy? How is your attitude? How do you handle anger? Those who hurt you? Are you willing to go out of your way to help a stranger? Remember, they are watching even when you don't see them, they see you. James 1: 19-25 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
