The Bread of Life 02/16/2011
Today in my quiet time God once again revealed to me a life lesson that all Christians should know...that He is the bread of life and what that means. I was working on my "Out Live Your Life" bible study that I am teaching on Tuesday mornings. Max Lucado was discussing how Jesus wants us to understand that our food on earth (bread) is temporal and only last/feeds us for a short time. That he is in fact the true bread of life that last/feeds us forever. As I sat and pondered on this I was reminded how in ministry, in our churches, in our lives we get so stuck on the temporal. That even our prayers are focused on the temporal. Lord I pray for a cheap airfare. Lord I pray for another speaking engagement. Lord I pray to get in this door or that door or sell more stuff. While these are important, I as well as you must not lose sight of the reason we pray for the temporal. It is because they are a means to the end....to provide the real bread of life...Jesus. In our sincerity of serving the Lord in our singles ministries, our church ministry, our time with family and friends, working, relationships, etc. we can forget the reason Christ came on this earth. We can forget to give folks the bread of life. That our prayers need to also include reaching folks for the purpose of the kingdom. Thank you Lord for reminding me yet again to not lose focus on the means but to make sure the means is to get to the ends of reaching people for you so they may also have eternal life. John 6:48 I am the bread of life. Add Comment |
